Duty to Manage Asbestos
The Duty to Manage Asbestos (Appointed Person) training course covers an overview of the Duty to Manage asbestos in non-domestic premises, following the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, and specifically Regulation 4.
It is primarily directed at those who manage non-domestic premises, but also include duty holder’s assistants, appointed persons assistants, building owners, landlords etc.
Employers must make sure that anyone who supervises employees who are liable to disturb asbestos during their work ensures they receive the correct level of information, instruction and training to enable them to carry out their work safely and competently and without risk to themselves or others.
Objective
To provide the delegate with a basic understanding of the legislative requirements of CAR 2012 with particular reference to the Duty holder and who that could be. It gives them an insight into the types of surveys available, what to expect in a survey, implementation of an asbestos management plan, its use and requirement.
Learning Outcomes
To provide delegates with the knowledge and practical experience to:
- Be familiar with the requirements of CAR 2012 with regards to their responsibilities,
- Be familiar with the different types of asbestos, typical usage and likely occurrences of asbestos in buildings,
- Understand the risk assessment process of ACM’s,
- Understand the requirements for asbestos surveys, HSG 264 The Survey Guide,
- Be able to interpret the results of an asbestos survey,
- Be able to develop an asbestos management plan including an action plan and ongoing monitoring,
- Understand if any work being carried out is likely to disturb ACM’s, and if so, is the work non-licensed or should it be carried out by a licensed asbestos contractor,
- Understand the requirements to carry out asbestos removal in a proper, legal and safe manner,
- Be able to recognise signs of poor or bad working practices, and be able to intervene where necessary.
Duration and Pre-requisites
The expected duration for this training will be 1 day or a minimum of 6 learning hours, and the training will include an asbestos awareness element.
However, if the delegate has undertaken an asbestos awareness training within the last 6 months, then the expected duration for this training will be ½ day or 3 learning hours.
Should the asbestos awareness training fall outside of this, then the full training will be required.
