Fire Awareness Training

Fire Awareness Training

A fire is the most common type of emergency for which all businesses must plan.  Whatever industry or environment you operate in, all Companies have a legal obligation to ensure there is adequate Fire Safety cover, and that the staff have had suitable Fire Awareness training.

About this Fire Awareness Training Course

A critical decision when planning is whether or not employees should fight a small fire with a portable fire extinguisher or simply evacuate.

Small fires can often be put out quickly with a portable fire extinguisher. However, to do this safely, the employee must understand the use and limitation of a portable fire extinguisher and the hazards associated with fighting fires. This training course will provide delegates with the knowledge and the confidence to be able to tackle small fires, or make the judgement call to raise the alarm and evacuate.

Learning Outcomes

The main objectives of this training are to enable the delegate to:

  1. Gain an understanding of fire, how it begins and how it spreads,
  2. Be aware of how fire extinguishers work.
  3. Know that sometimes it is better that they do not use an extinguisher.
  4. Learn how to choose the correct extinguisher, and be competent in their use.

Fire Awareness Training Course Contents

This training course is broken down into 5 sections:

    What is Fire?

To begin, we have to understand the make-up of fire, looking at the fire triangle, discovering how fires start, and the different ways in which they can spread. With this knowledge, we aim to keep workplaces safe by keeping elements apart, and also if we know how fires start, then we should be able to figure out how to stop them.

    Classifications of Fire

In this section we cover the different “Classes of Fire”, and by understanding what is burning, we should be able to make the correct choice of extinguisher to use on each class.

    Fire Prevention

Here we look at leading causes of fires, and  discuss the potential fire hazards that can arise in the workplace. We look at flammable/combustible products that may be used in the workplace, often without realising just how dangerous they can be. We also cover possible ignition sources, where and how they can occur, and discuss certain working practices that need to be implemented to avoid creating fire hazards.

    Portable Fire Extinguishers

In this section we go deeper into the different types of fire extinguishers, how they work, and how they can stop a fire. We teach delegates about when it’s safe to fight a fire, and also when it’s not safe, and evacuation is the best approach. We provide practical demonstrations on how to use fire extinguishers.

    Emergency Procedures

This section explains what action should be taken in the event of an emergency, including recognition of a fire situation, raising the alarm, calling emergency services, and evacuation procedures.
