SPA - UKPIA Petrol Retail Contractor Safety Passport

UKPIA - The United Kingdom Petroleum Industry association, is the UK based trade association that works alongside the SPA - Safety Pass Alliance to develop this industry specific qualification.

This two day training course is the industry recommended standard for contractors working on or around petrol forecourts in the UK. When working in these high-risk and specialist environments there is a need to understand the hazards around a petrol forecourt as well as the associated risks, how to manage them and how to safely operate in these environments.

As well as the forecourt itself this is aimed at individuals and contractors working in associated shops and kiosks and promotes safety amongst the workforce.

The course is comprised of two separate days training:

Day 1 - Core day - an overview of general health & safety including ares of responsibility for Health & Safety and the environment

Day 2 - Forecourt Contractors - covering both hazards on a petrol filling station & controlling work on a forecourt

Renewal Course Eligibility Criteria

Our renewal course follows the Safety Pass Alliance's strict guidelines:

Important Renewal Window

• Renewal is possible only within a six-month window before your passport's expiry date (including the actual day it expires)
• This window allows ample time to arrange suitable training dates
• Recommended: Book early to accommodate potential postponements for operational challenges that might prevent your attendance - there is no penalty for sitting your refresher as early as possible within your renewal window

Passport Renewal Process

• 3-year extension: Upon successful completion of your refresher course you will be issued a new Safety Passport card which will not expire until 3 years after your current card's expiry date
• Completing the renewal within the six-month window prevents the need for re-attending a full two-day course

Example Renewal Scenario:

• Current Passport Issued: 13th March 2023
• Renewal Window Opens: 13th September 2025
• Passport Expiry Date: 13th March 2026

Consequences of Missing the Renewal Window

If you fail to complete the renewal within the six-month window:

• You will need to attend the full two-day core course
• You will not be able to work on your clients' PFS sites until you have been retrained

Important notice

If you need to refresh only your SPA 'Core' Safety Passport for application for ECS or SKILLS cards then you  will need to attend one of our 'Core' day courses, not this Refresher course which will only renew Petrol Retail cards. You are welcome to attend day-1 of any of our Open SPA Petrol Retail Safety Passport 2-day courses (see schedule below) but you'll need to book your place over the phone, not via the website.
