BOHS P402 – Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings

BOHS P402 - Surveying and Sampling Strategies for Asbestos in Buildings

With the laws changing in 1999, all asbestos importation, supply and use was banned in the UK, but there is still a huge risk to health from buildings that were built before 1999, that still contain Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s).

Due to the risk to health that disturbed asbestos fibres can cause, not only to the workers involved, but to anybody else that potentially breathes in the deadly fibres, identification of any ACM’s within a building is crucial.

Asbestos surveyors play a critical role in preventing exposure to asbestos by being able to locate and identify asbestos-containing materials and provide advice to minimise the risk of exposure.

Objective

To provide background about ACM’s, and practical knowledge in the surveying of buildings for asbestos. It will also provide general guidance on management procedures necessary to minimise exposure to any identified asbestos.

This qualification is applicable for both experienced and relative newcomers to asbestos surveying, and is a foundation for basic knowledge.

This is a level 4 qualification in the BOHS qualifications framework, equivalent to NVQ Level 4. It is the minimum recognised qualification for those undertaking asbestos surveys.
